1. Change your invisalign aligners on time and in the correct order
When you’ve got a hectic schedule and a thousand things to think about each day, it can be difficult to remember your own name, never mind when you need to change your invisalign aligner!
But, to see the best possible results from your treatment, this is absolutely crucial. So, whether you need to write it in your diary, set an alarm, or get someone else to remind you, find a fool proof way to remember when to change your aligners. After all, forgetting to change your aligner or wearing them in the wrong order can have a seriously negative impact on your treatment.
2. Wear your invisalign aligners for the correct amount of time
You need to ensure that you wear your aligners for 22 hours each day. We know that might seem like an incredibly long time but, in the grand scheme of things, it isn’t forever and really isn’t much to ask for the perfect smile. If you aren’t willing to commit to wearing your aligners for 22 hours every single day, then this type of treatment probably isn’t for you.
3. Any discomfort will pass…trust us
When you have your first set of aligners fitted, you might feel some discomfort for the first few days whilst your teeth adjust. Whilst it can be tempting to decide during this period that Invisalign isn’t for you, and you were happy with your teeth beforehand any way, the small amount of discomfort will only last a few days at most, so it’s definitely worth putting up with – just focus on the long-term results.
4. Talk, talk, and talk some more
Another thing that you might notice when you first wear your aligners is that talking is a little more difficult than before. You might even notice that you’ve developed a slight lisp. Again, this is temporary and the more you talk, the quicker you will get used to having the aligner in your mouth – so make sure you keep talking a lot!
5. Floss each and every day
We all know that we should brush and floss everyday, right? But when you are undergoing Invisalign treatment, this is more important than ever before as your aligners will hold any bacteria left over after cleaning your teeth, right up against your teeth. So clean and floss every single day!
6. Embrace Invisalign attachments
Your dentist will most likely provide you with attachments to help boost your treatment. Whilst many people are reluctant to use them, they really do make a difference so, if your dentist provides them or suggests you use them, make sure you do! It will speed up your treatment, allowing you to achieve straight teeth, fast.
7. Take care of your aligners…
To get the best possible results from your Invisalign aligners, it’s important that you take good care of them. You should clean your aligners regularly using warm water and antibacterial soap. Stay away from toothpaste as this can scratch the plastic and create a breading ground for bacteria.
8. …and your mouth
As well as keeping your Invisalign aligners clean, it’s also important that you keep your mouth ultra-clean to prevent plaque and bacteria from building up against your teeth and getting trapped there by your aligner trays. So make sure you step up your flossing and brushing routine!
9. Retainers are essential
Once you’ve completed your Invisalign treatment, it’s absolutely vital that you wear your retainers as instructed by your dentist. This will prevent your teeth from drifting back to their original position – meaning that all the time and money you spent correcting them will be wasted.
10. Remember no one is staring!
Whilst you’re wearing your aligners, it can be easy to feel like everyone is starring at your mouth. But the fact is that most people won’t even notice you are wearing your trays at all. So be bold, be confident, and smile!
